Milan Fashion Week Spring 2009 Highlights

Let’s take a glimpse on some of the highlights of Milan Fashion Week Spring 2009.

Missoni Spring 2009 collection was comprised of different shades, tones and styles. The colour palette used in the collection is a combination of pink, gold, blue and yellow. Models walked the runway in palazzo pants, summer dresses, high-waisted straight skirts and silk blouses, accessorized with chunky belts. The evening gowns were embellished with studded detail, to give them added flair.

Burberry Prorsum's Spring 2009 collection had an autumn/fall feel because it comes with shades of grey, brown, and bronze. The collection was made up of hats, Barbour-style hunting jackets, skinny cardigans, drop-waist dresses. Models were accessorized with oversized statement necklaces which Christopher also presented in his Fall 2008 collection.

Prada's Spring 2009 collection was like the Fall 2008 lace collection, with cropped tops, bra tops and key hole dresses and crumpled pieces. Shrunken jackets had no fasteners except a tie at the neck. Open backs on cashmere jumpers were tied with cotton strings like hospital gowns. There were also sexy secretary silhouettes and python prints.

Giorgio Armani Spring 2009 collection was full of luxe fabrics of organza and chiffon, with a color palette of light and pastel shades of sandy beige to sea shell brown. The designer presented a mixed collection of romantic above-the-knee dresses, ankle-length gowns, Bermuda shorts and slim pants. Signature pieces like tuxedo/blazers were given a modern touch, with asymmetrical buttoning. Dresses were either strapless or layered with petals.

Emporio Armani Spring 2009 collection’s color palette includes navy and white, with shades of grey. The trousers picked up on the trend from New York Fashion Week, and were either cigarette pants or harem-inspired. Blouses and dresses were adorned with large statement necklaces.

Monique Lhuillier's Spring 2009 Collection Makes Every Filipino Proud

During the 5th day of New York Fashion Week, Monique Lhuillier again proved to everyone that Filipinos can excel and compete with the best in the world. For her Spring 2009 collection, her reference points were the farmlands: wheat, corn and wicker. Yellows and browns held their own among bright turquoise, nectar, rouge, and navy.

Diane Monique Lhuillier is a Filipino (from Cebu City, Philippines) fashion designer based in the United States. She was raised to a family engaged in the jewelry business and they have been famous for their chain of pawnshops known as M. Lhuillier, all over the Philippines.

She attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising and upon graduation, took a job at a small French firm. But it was the process of designing her own wedding to future company co-founder Tom Bugabee that cemented her vision of her future firm. In 1996, she launched her first bridal collection.

Since then, Lhuillier’s bridal, evening gowns and dresses have been worn by an ever-expanding list of Hollywood’s top celebrities and are favorites of Angelina Jolie, Sarah Jessica Parker, Reese Witherspoon, Mischa Barton, Jennifer Aniston, Sharon Stone, Teri Hatcher, Eva Longoria, Debra Messing, Jennifer Connely, Jessica Simpson, Britney Spears, Diane Lane, Jessica Alba, Alicia Silverstone, Ashlee Simpsons and many others.

She was awarded with Presidential Medal of Merit by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo for her extraordinary achievements in the world of fashion design.

New York Fashion Week - Spring 2009: Day 5 Recap

Marc by Marc Jacobs

The latest collection featured flirty signature dresses, light denim standouts, jumpsuits galore and knotted necklaces. Critics said that the collection would be surely favored by the youth especially the baby dolls and trapeze dresses, the patchwork denim and the splashy prints as well as the tweedy jackets with rolled-up sleeves and pants with paper-bag waists.

Narciso Rodriguez

Narciso started his "Ninja" spring collection in mostly black and white. The collection was created with ninja-star prints and ninja-star bugle-bead embroidery, one-sleeved bandage dresses, and studded bodices looks like an armor. The pieces usually appear in a contrasting color or fabric arranged geometrically on the front and back of tops and dresses with cutouts. His colour palette is composed of sage, kelly green, red, salmon pink, rust, and nude.

Rodarte

Kate and Laura Mulleavey referred their models as "beautiful androids". Futhermore, after seeing their collection anyone could say that they're so much in to cyber thingy. The collection came in nude color: pleated skirts and cut out leggings with slashed sleeveless tops. But at the end of the show, Grecian gowns can be seen on the runway.

Cynthia Steffe

Shaun Kearney offered something for every girl, from sporty separates to full, frilly skirts, eyelet bustiers, smocking, and a lime green crepe de chine dress.

Max Azria

Max and Lubov Azria were minimalists for Spring 2009. The audience watched a parade of jersey girls in an almost exclusively pale and neutral color palette. The look for the season mostly very fluid, with lots of draping, twisting, and casually exposed shoulders and backs. There was also a clean athleticism to it, with tops and dresses layered over bandeaux, bodysuits, and stretchy ribbed belts. Evening wear was similarly clean in unembellished georgette, cut to dramatically flap and flutter.

Matthew Williamson

Matthew Williamson started his Spring 2009 show with sharply tailored suits in neon colors. His speacialty includes bohemian beading, caftans, a belted, allover sequin tunic dress, a beaded bed jacket worn with an easy T-shirt and cropped white jeans, and an absolutely electric abstract floral-print chiffon jumpsuit, as well as parachute pants.

Sophie Theallet

Theallet began with crisp white dresses and moved into beige colors decorated with floral prints, followed by dramatic Grecian gowns. Shirtdresses were belted at natural waists, there was frill without overdoing it, and it was all about the details, from the ties to the visible zippers.
