Politics of Fashion: Celebrities and Fashion Designers Hearts Obama

Who said that fashion and politics don't mix? Well, he or she is wrong. Today, politics are evidently entering the world of fashion. We can see political phrases and slogans on some items of clothing that advertise specific candidates or political parties.

Sarah Palin is not the only politician who is setting fashion trends. Barack Obama is also becoming a fashion icon. After being featured in Andrew Christian's Obama ‘08 boxer briefs, he was also featured on the runways of Paris in the Jean-Charles de Castelbajac show. Obama's face can be seen on a sporty yellow sequined dress and was completed with a matching gloves that said YES and NO.

Some famous fashion designers including Zac Posen, Marc Jacobs, Rag & Bone and Derek Lam produce merchandise for Obama's official online store.

Moreover, Hollywood celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Madonna and Halle Berry said yes to Obama as they pledge their allegiance to him by regularly wearing Obama tee shirts.

In addition to the list, Drew Barrymore gets into the election season spirit on the cover of November's Harper's Bazaar. Like lots of other celebrities, she wants to encourage young people to vote while at the same time endorses Barack Obama.

Fashion War: Claire Danes vs Drew Barrymore (Gucci Jewelry Campaign Ads)

Last year, Gucci handpicked Drew Barrymore for their first ever Hollywood celebrity-featured campaign. This year, another Hollywood actress was chosen as the new face of Gucci Jewelry and she's no other than Claire Danes.

However, the new ads were not totally new. It had the same settings with Drew Barrymore's ads and the only difference is it's now Claire Danes with jewelry on the naked skin. Some say it's deja vu. Some say the idea was easy. But I will say, it's the profit that counts. Just like what Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini said last year: “Drew brought wonderful energy and excitement to this project, perhaps they are hoping to have that spark again this year.

Who's ads are better?

Emmy Awards 2008 Red Carpet Fashion

Just like any other awards night, the 60th Annual Emmy awards was star-studded and it's a good thing to once again see the A-list celebrities in their best red carpet fashion.

Sandra Oh who had been on worst-dressed lists for a few times came in a retro-style black lace dress by Oscar de la Renta with a ribbon sash and a few sparkles on the skirt and a pair of 5.5-carat emerald-cut diamond earrings by Bulgari. Debra Messing posed in her black gown with 19th century diamond fan-pendants earrings from Fred Leighton.

Christina Hendricks showed the contours of her body b wearing a curve-hugging emerald green gown. Nicolette Sheridan wore a sleek strapless gown by Angel Sanchez in purple along with Holly Hunter who wore a plum Jenny Packham gown with a jeweled waist.

Brooke Shields was in a hot pink lipstick-color strapless gown with a ruffle down the front and brooch on the side of her waist by Badgley Mischka. Eva Longoria was in a short strapless gown with fringed tiers by Marchesa.

Jennifer Love Hewitt chose to be in white-with-black strapless gown by Herrera while Vanessa Williams picked a splashy white-and-black print dress by Kevan Hall that had a jeweled strap that went from her shoulder to just below the waist.

America Ferrera was one of the stars who preferred black palettes. She opted for a bubble-hem dress and Hollywood siren-style red lipstick.
