and Natalie Portman forAs most of us know, Senator Specter and the Judiciary Committee passed a bill last night. All the pro-immigrant legislation remained in there (which is a good thing)
Senator Frist had threatened that he will bring his bill to the floor if the Senate Judiciary Committee does not do it. Since the bill passed the committee yesterday, most people assume that the Senate will debate Senator Specter's bill.
WRONG!

Despite yesterday's vote, Senate majority leader Bill Frist warned that he may substitute his bill, which only enforces borders, and ask the full Senate to vote on it instead of the far broader and more lenient measure approved yesterday by the judiciary committee.
In any event, a bruising battle on the Senate floor is expected this week. And even if the Senate approves the committee's bill, any measure that appears to provide ''amnesty" to those who are here illegally faces fierce opposition in the House, which in December passed a bill that would erect a fence along the Mexican border and make it a crime to provide social services to undocumented immigrants.
And while President Bush is a strong supporter of a guest worker program, he has signaled hesitancy to allowing undocumented immigrants to gain legal status.
Basically there is NO guarantee which bill comes to the floor. Please update this thread as you find more information about this

I am a little confused. I just got my H1B extension done recently and my attorney sent me a letter saying that if I go out of the country for stamping I need to make sure my Passport is valid beyond the H1B period.
My passport expires in May 2008 and my current H1 is valid till July 2010. Does anyone see any issues in going for stamping in India in July 2007 with my current passport and later on some time next year applying for a new Indian passport.

The top users of the H-1B program for 2009 included multi-national technology companies headquartered, and with branch offices in Silicon Valley. Wipro tops the list with 1,964 new H-1B visas. Microsoft is second with 1318, but then Intel Corp has a big drop off at 723 H-1B's The list of Silicon Valley companies continues, including Infosys Technologies (440), Qualcomm (320), Cisco (308), Oracle (272), Google (211), Yahoo (183), Apple (168), Nvidia (130), and Hewlett Packard (115). While there is no way to know whether these companies sponsored employees located in Silicon Valley, as opposed to another office location, it is clear that high-tech and Silicon Valley are standouts on the list of H-1B employers.
Those who assume the H-1B is a tool used primarily by IT companies may be surprised to see the number of prestigious universities and medical facilities also nearing the top of the list. H-1B visas are work visas for professional workers who typically require at least a Bachelor's degree for entry into their profession. This includes teachers, professors, doctors, and scientists in addition to engineers.

5)on Jan 21,2009 acc to USCIS site RFE was issued
6)on Apr 10,2009 Visa denied. I am still waiting for the details of the RFE and denial from my attorney?
Q1) Am I still legal to stay,if so till how many days or am I
already out of status?
q2)can I still rejoin the previous employee i.e.Comp B
q3)can Comp C able to reapply for H1B if So after how much time can it
reapply for me?

Natalie Portman at the 2011Hi, I have an approved I 140 (EB3) and my priority date is Nov 2007. I have a Canadian PR and my employer has agreed to let me work from our Canada Office. My question is, what should I do when/if my priority date becomes current while we are in Canada ? Should we come back to USA on visitors visa and apply for AOS or should be go for Consular Processing ? What are the pros and cons of each approach ?

I needed to confirm my address change.. called uscis and I was told they can't see any personal info... basically read me my status on website and a long boring standard message.. saying you are within the normal processing dates and blah blah... Bottom line I was suggested to take infopass.. so I took.. Its my first infopass appt ever and it was very easy... shown me 2 dates avaialable for Aug (nothing in July).. So I pick one and then was asked to pick a time...
I selected as a follow up on pending case...
Hopefully they'll process my AOS before that :-)

Case filed at NSC and transferred to TSC (July 23, 2008)
Keeping my fingers crossed per 50-50 probability theory :-)

Greg Siskind (following the original link) is not sure if there is a trend here, but it seems to me in recent years there is a perceptible shift in the occupation of these fraudsters, moving upscale from small-time crooks to the ringmasters who are supposed to help enforce immigration laws.

Have a question? Will it be possible to change from EB-2 to Eb-3 with in the same company. My PD is Nov 02 with I-140 just now approved. Or do i have to find another job in some other company in order to use old priority date. Pl. advise is this the right time to change or wait for EB-3 to be current for my PD(don't know , lost hope as of now)
